Next Stop Happiness

If you are waiting to be happy, you will be waiting a long time.

Happy exists right where you are.

If you are waiting for the right job, relationship, holiday, weather, house, once you have done or finished whatever, then I hate being the bearer of bad news, but you will be waiting a long time.

When you arrive in any of those places, they may give you some short term happiness, but it won’t last.

My thinking for much of my adult life was that when I have ‘X’ then I will be happy. ‘X’ for me was money, my job, car, house, partner, until I realized I needed to enjoy and be grateful for everything I had in my life in order to be happy.

No ‘one’, or no ‘thing’, outside of myself, will bring me life long happiness. I need, and you need, to be happy with you, and what you have in your life right now. If you aren’t, then you need to make the changes necessary so that you are happy with the person you are, and appreciate what you do have in your life.

Here a bonus tip.

Even when you have all those things you think you need to be happy, they won’t make you any happier than you are right now. They may bring moments of joy, but if it’s long term happiness you seek, you will need to dig a little deeper.

Plus, ok I said a bonus tip, but here’s another. Life is a beautiful mixed bag made up of highs and lows, happiness and sadness, it’s all a part of it. The happiness you maybe seeking,  might also be always out of your reach, plus, do you really want to be happy all the time?  How would you know true happiness without the sadness?

Life will always be a mixed bag, and for me, that’s exactly how I want it to be.

When you learn to find happiness right where you are, everything else becomes a bonus.

Find your happy, the rest of your life will thank you.
