We doubt ourselves to protect us from the criticism that has hurt us in the past, and may still hurt us today.
We doubt ourselves to save us from any potential embarrassment or judgement from others, or even more importantly from ourselves, based on what we might do wrong. The crazy thing is this, that the thing we might do wrong, we haven’t even started!
Funny that we don’t give ourselves a chance before we start something, and that we will then criticize and judge ourselves if we didn’t do something in the first place. Go figure, and definitely not a win win situation.

The fact that you can recognize them is a positive sign. The next step
is trying to catch your critical thoughts, and at least be open to
whatever the opportunity may be, and doing it anyway.
“I can’t do it.”
As soon as you hear yourself saying any words of self-doubt to yourself, catch it, understand why you can’t do whatever it is, and then try and find the simplest first step that you can take.
Be kind to yourself as you coach yourself through your critical thoughts of self doubt, you will get there, as long as you can accept that you will have down days, mixed in with the positive ones. In time you will end up having more positive days where your self talk is immediately “I can do it”, and your belief in what you can do sky rockets. Your life changes for the better the more you believe in what you can do, rather than what you can’t.
