We are strange creatures us human beings. We are quick to encourage and support others, yet when we need the same support, we tell ourselves the opposite.
Think of any children in your life, either your kids or a niece or nephew.
How often do you remind them they can do something that they think they can’t do. It might be something quite small or it could be huge. Either way, you will no doubt encourage and support them in going for it, or in trying at the very least.
The thing is, it’s not even a thought when it comes to your kids, you tell them they can do it, it’s as simple as that. So why is it then, that you don’t tell yourself the same?? And don’t worry, I do, and most of us are really good at doing exactly the same thing.
Next
time you hear yourself saying I can’t do it, be the person you are for
your kids, support yourself with your self-talk, and tell yourself you
can do it, then get out there and try your hardest, at whatever it is.
It takes time to get better at telling yourself you can do it, but remind yourself often, it will soon be your default response.
While
our kids hear our words, they learn best from our actions. Make sure
what you are teaching them through your own actions, is the same as the
words you are telling them. They will start believing in themselves,
because you believe in yourself.
Makes sense doesn’t it.
